Every year, New Zealanders spend literally billions of dollars on building maintenance, renovation and improvement - yet until FIX IT Building Services started 22 years ago, there was no trade-based organisation serving the needs of the whole country.
FIX IT Building Services was founded with the vision of:
The idea for FIX IT Building Services came from Carters, part of the giant Carter Holt Harvey group, which in 2002 saw Fix It as an opportunity to provide a full building maintenance and installation “solution” – rather than just products – for their customers.
The FIX IT concept had already been running successfully in the Bay of Plenty for twelve years.
In 2003, Gavin Hunt of Signature Homes and Robin La Pere, a franchise consultant, recognised the potential for the FIX IT concept to fill an enormous gap in the market for renovations and building repairs. They felt their experience in the building and franchising industries would add substantial value to FIX IT, so they purchased the business from Carters.
Since then, the FIX IT network has really taken off, growing to 12 franchises covering more than 50 franchise territories from Whangarei to Christchurch.
In 2008, Robin La Pere and Russell Poole, one of Fix It's senior management team, completed a management buy-out of the company and moved the head office to Wellington.
